Its a Cage 3D design for the BMPCC OG that you can print for yourself or send to a manufacture service. You get a .ZIP file that contains the .STEP files, .STLs, Technical drawings and some rendered images. It has perfect tolerance and dimensions for the Camera body so after printing and a bit of cleanup you can use it right away.

The design:
The base of it was inspired by the discontinued ViewFactor cage with some modifications to it, especially at the mounting holes and options. It includes 1/4-20 standard tripod threads and the bigger 3/8-16 ones as well. The distance between the holes are the industry standards (9mm center to center) that most Accessories vendors use like, Smallrig, Tilta, etc. This means that you will be able to attach almost every accessory to it that you already have or want to buy, like rod mounts, display hoods, cable locks, etc. even the cheap chinese ones. The walls have an inside bevel in every corner to add structural strength, this way its going to take impacts with ease.

There are 2 versions:

  • In one of the designs the threads are already made and ready to print with threads with a slightly bigger tolerance so even with small printing errors you should be able to use the threads. (1/4-20 threads usually don't require supports so it saves you from the clean up.)
  • The second version only includes the holes without the threads, this is perfect for those of you who want to use brass heatset inserts. This will give you a better strength when tightening anything to it but in my tests, the printed threads held up just as well and i didn't had any problems with them.

When printing: You should print it face down so it makes less supports so it increases speed time and quality. For best results use lower layer height like 0.1 and smaller diameter nozzle if you can. You can print this in PLA but keep in mind that summer temperatures or hot cars and PLA doesn't go well together. Materials that i recommend are: ABS, ASA and all these kind of stronger plastics because of heat resistance. You can also give it a go with PETG as its stronger then PLA and more heat resistant but its not as good as ABS or ASA. If you don't have a 3D printer yourself you can always ask around your friends OR (and i think this is one of the best methods) there are 3D printing services out there, one that i know of is PCB Way, you can upload the files for them, choose materials and color and in a couple of days it should be ready and shipped to you. You can always search on the internet for 3D printing services in your area.

If you want metal versions of this design then you have the options to send it to only services that will do 3D printing in metal, like aluminum and to send to a CNC machining service. (Or to have friends that will do it for you :D )
